Cbeebies Star Andy Day Tells Us How He is Challenging Bullying in Schools

Please could you introduce yourself?

Hi I'm Andy Day and you'll probably know me best as a children's TV presenter battling dinosaurs on Cbeebies, which I've been lucky enough to do for the last 11 years.

I now also have a band called Andy And The Odd Socks and we sing songs about aliens, dinosaurs (of course!) and robots, amongst other things, all especially written for kids! (but for the parents to enjoy too).

'We are in a privileged position that enables us to help influence behaviour, hopefully for the better, so by writing a song that children can learn and sing to promote Anti-Bullying, is a joy.'

Anti-bullying champion and children's entertainer Andy Day tells us more about his role in taking on the bullies and his odd socks!

What is the Anti-bullying Alliance?

The Anti-bullying Alliance are a collection of organisations and individuals, who work together to achieve one vision; to stop bullying and create a safer environment in which children and young people can live, grow, play and learn.

What motivated you to become involved with the Anti-bullying Alliance and their campaigns?

Andy and The Odd Socks' message is everything that the Anti-bullying Alliance promotes. Our songs are all about being unique and appreciating other's unique qualities. Encouraging acceptance of individuality at an early age might help prevent bullying later in life. We are in a privileged position that enables us to help influence behaviour, hopefully for the better, so by writing a song that children can learn and sing to promote Anti-Bullying, is a joy.

What do you hope campaigns such as Anti-bullying Week will achieve?

We hope that both children and schools feel supported with advice and knowledge on dealing with issues that may arise and that following Odd Socks Day children will feel more confident in themselves and accepting of one another.
